It's week 2 of our HIKE - ANUARY: Health and Wellness Series  and this week we're taking you to the absolutely BREATHTAKING summit of Slieve Binnian, undoubtedly one of the most amazing places to be in the Mournes. And with easy access to parking and the fantastic Carrick Cottage Cafe at the start and end of the walk to feed us with coffee and traybakes, what more could you ask!

As always, our team of Qualified Mountain Leaders, with between 10 - 15 years experience each, will keep you safe, make all the right calls on weather and where to go, and importantly having the craic too :)

Plan For The Day

We'll meet at the Carrick Little Car Park for 08:30,  and after a quick check that everyone has all they need, we'll set off up the hill at a nice pace that suits everyone in the group.

We'll walk up the Carrick Little track where things very quickly get impressive, as you're confronted with an awe inspiring view of the Mourne Skyline, and a quick glance at all the other hikes in the series too. After a quick show around of all these amazing mountains, we'll sling a left and head up the south east flank of Binnian, on steep open mountain terrain. After a hard trek for roughly an hour (plenty of rests included!), we'll take in the outrageously good views of the silent valley reservoir and the mountains all around us from the Summit Tor. Later, we'll trek through the impressively looming Binnian Tors (on a well defined path), great big towers of rock that make up the main ridge of Binnian, before descending back down the north side of the mountain. On the way back, we pass the beautiful "Blue Lough", were some folks go for cold water swims - although better you than me at this time of year!

Optional, yet encouraged, is a stop at the end to get tasty traybakes and hot drinks from Carrick Cottage Cafe - just because it's a healthy hike series, doesn't mean we can't have a treat, trust us when we say you'll have earned it :).

The whole trip out should take around  5 hours including breaks, and is suitable for anyone with a determined mindset and moderate level of fitness.
