Have you REALLY REALLY ENJOYED XMAS? Like a little too much? Well join the club, but let's sart off as we mean to go on, by getting outdoors, getting some good exercise in nature and having the craic with friends (new and old!)
Each week on this 5 event HIKE - ANUARY SERIES will take you to a different Peak in the Mournes. Some are the big popular peaks, while others are the hills a little less travelled - yet no less awe inspiring! On each hike, you'll be looked after by our team of Qualified Mountain Leaders, all with between 10 - 15 years experience each in leading people in the mountains. They're are really good craic too, so we'll keep chatting the whole way up and down the hill as well.
Plan For The Day
Meeting just outside the Beautiful village of Rostrevor on the Killowen Old Road for 09:30, we'll set off up the hill at a nice leisurely pace to suit everyone in the group - don't worry, we'll try not bust everyone on day one after a Xmas of too much food and drink!
We'll walk up through the beautiful Ballyedmond Wood, passing some impressive riverine cliffs, before popping out onto open mountain and a well defined yet less travelled path that leads to the top of Slieve Fadda. Once we reach this height of 420m, we'll turn east and drop down onto the shoulder towards Knockshee, with it's 360 degree views off the summit, looking over the bulk of the Mournes to the North, and the beautiful Carlingford Lough to the South. You can even get a pretty awesome sneak peak over the whole Ballyedmond Estate for those who pass the "big red wall" regularly between Rostrevor and Kilkeel (owned by the family who created Norbrook laboratories). After the usual selfies, videos and general "ooos" and "Ahhs", we'll drop back down off Knockshee and return to where we started.
The whole trip out should take around 4 to 5 hours including breaks, and will be a nice gentle intro to the whole series for January, before we take on the bigger hills over the next 4 weeks.
