This course is designed to give you the skills needed to be a safe paddle boarder, to plan fun trips, to deal with emergencies and also to give you a good idea of where to find some awesome little spots to go paddle boarding in.

You won't be a pro after these four sessions, but you will be hooked on paddle boarding like we are!

Topics Covered

- Introduction to safety equipment needed and different types of SUP board available

- Getting onto your board and basic paddling strokes

- How to paddle in different environmental conditions

- Self rescue and rescuing your friends if you fall off / in an emergency

- Understanding environmental conditions and how they affect us and our SUP boards (tide, wind, hazards etc)

- Using weather forecasts & local knowledge to plan a safe trip

- Knowledge of SUP opportunities in Ireland, the UK and abroad (clubs, governing bodies etc)

Teaching Style

Our SUP skills courses are taught in a fun and relaxed style, often through games designed to test a certain technique or by going on spectacular journeys in stunning natural environments - and of course there is usually a LOT of falling / jumping into the water too!

Don't worry if you're nervous in the water or can't swim at all, our staff (and equipment) are well used to helping people like you overcome boundaries in an easy, no pressure way.

Absolutely! First of all, you'll be wearing the BEST safety equipment there is. A warm winter wetsuit to keep you toasty (this also helps you float), and importantly a buoyancy aid, designed to keep you afloat in the water - you don't have to do a thing!

Also, our watersports sessions are led by experienced and qualified staff, who have years of experience in looking after people who are nervous in the water. We'll progressively coach you from knee depth water to deep open water in no time at all. We do this every day, so just trust us and we'll have you chilled out and loving it!

- Fully qualified and experienced Paddlesport Instructors to guide you on the water

- All equipment for the water - paddle board, paddle, winter wetsuit, buoyancy aid

- Course notes to take home for future reference

- Digital pictures and videos of your session so you can remember it forever

- Insurance and first aid cover

- A completed Health Declaration & Registration Form

- Any medication you may need

- A towel / changing robe

- A change of clothes (nice warm ones for after the session)

- Spare shoes for the water - close toed and thick soled. No flip flops or high heels!

- Anything else on the kit list - this will be sent at the booking stage

On week one (weather permitting) we'll meet at Cranfield Beach as listed in the description. However due to the nature of this course, we aim to bring you folks to several different amazing locations in the South Down area. We may take you to them all over the 4 week course, or if the weather is unfriendly for us, we may use the same location more than once.

All of these locations are absolutely beautiful places to paddle, and our aim is to teach to the safety precautions and localised weather patterns to watch for at each. We do this so you can come back here time and time again safely in the future.

Should government restrictions come into effect on the date of the course which would prevent us from running the activity, we will offer alternative dates on which to take part in the activity, or a credit note to the value of the missed activity, which can be used against any of our services or events.
