About The Event

COST: £40pp

SUITABLE FOR: ADULTS AND 14+ ACCOMPANIED BY ADULTS

This 3 to 4 hour intermediate course is a follow on from our full day  Introduction to Navigation Course. It is designed to build on the foundation of skills and knowledge learned on the intro day, and it is expected that you can already interpret the features of the map in relation to the land, as well as plan and execute an appropriate "navigational leg" using a variety of skills such as pacing, timing and walking on a bearing. We don't expect you to be an expert in these areas but at least a basic working knowledge of these skills will maximise your learning on this secondary course.

We cover the following topics on this course:

  • Recap of any previously learned skills (i.e. taking a bearing and walking on it)
  • Development of skills which you are not yet fully competent in (i.e your pacing across different terrain)
  • Navigation to micro features
  • Relocation - aspect of slope, back bearings and resections
  • Additional navigational techniques - aiming off, boxing, attack points
  • Introduction to navigation at dusk / night
