Service Description

Our introduction to navigation and hill skills course is a one day event designed to give you a good foundation of skills and knowledge on which to build upon with practice after the course. We cover the following topics on this course: ​ Interpreting weather forecasts Preparing a route card Equipment needed Using the map to navigate Introduction to navigational aids (distance and time measuring) Taking a bearing Walking on a bearing Dealing with emergencies on the mountain ​ Our advanced navigation skills course is also a one day event, this time one designed to refresh and improve already known skills, plus adding some additional navigational aids previously unknown. Some possible topics covered include: ​ Aspect of slope Boxing Aiming off Back bearings Night navigation ​ Our pricing for either course is £45 pp (minimum numbers usually apply), with the introduction day typically running from 10 am to 4 pm, while the advanced course typically runs from mid-afternoon into darkness to cover night navigation. All courses are specific to your needs so the content will vary from person to person ​ ​ What's included: ​ Fully qualified and experienced Mountain Leaders to teach you all the skills you'll need Tailored content specifically for you Use of our maps and compasses (but we encourage you to get your own) A guaranteed good day out in the hills with lots of learning to be had!

Cancellation Policy

Any booking that is cancelled 48 hours or less from the initial event date will fully forfeit the booking costs. If you cancel more than 48 hours from the initial event date, we may offer you a credit note or alternative date, but always at the discretion of Geology Rocks Adventure. All payments and deposits are non-refundable.
